A New World
About Ryan West
Ryan West is a photographer whose interest is not only for the natural world around him, but enjoys depicting the environment, its events and scenes. In high school Ryan picked up his father’s film camera, a Canon F1, this was the beginning of his love of photography. His capturing of emotions and memories into the image of a lifetime. From then he started to photograph a variety of subjects from still life, weddings, portraits, senior pictures, to landscapes and everything in between.
He turned his love of photography into his own business, becoming a professional photographer and being published in numerous publications, magazines, and newspapers. In his free time he has turned to looking at the world to a much smaller scale. He believes that looking through a different lens to see the world at a variety of scales is a way to truly understand the world on a much deeper level.
Macro photography was never a big part of his skillset until he got his mother involved and once that happened, Ryan got really involved in learning the new techniques so he could help her. From there it has become a passion of his own, he not only started a Facebook group for macro enthusiasts but started teaching those as well. Chasing bugs and seeing how unique and beautiful they are, something the naked eye can’t see.
